Anurag Kashyap’s latest film Bandar (Monkey in a Cage), starring Bobby Deol, will have its world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The 50th edition of the festival will be held in Canada from Sep.4 to Sep.14.

The film, which runs 140 minutes, is inspired by true events. The exact date of its TIFF screening has not yet been confirmed.

Bobby Deol shared the news on Instagram on July 22, posting the film’s poster with the caption: “The Story that should not have been told...But is the Official Selection at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival 2025. Our Film inspired from True Events is Premiering at #tiff50.”

Directed by Kashyap, Bandar features Deol in the lead, alongside Sanya Malhotra, Saba Azad, and Sapna Pabbi. Malhotra is expected to play a central role in the narrative, though further details about the plot remain under wraps.

Kashyap, known for films such as Gangs of Wasseypur, Black Friday, and Ugly, returns to the international festival circuit with what appears to be another politically charged drama. Deol’s casting marks another high-profile appearance in what has been a notable second phase of his career.

TIFF, presented by Rogers, will feature films from over 30 countries this year. Bandar will be part of a slate of world premieres and global cinema titles vying for attention at the landmark 50th edition of the festival.
