Indian shuttler Ayush Shetty won his first Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour title at the US Open Super 300 on June 30.

The 20-year-old defeated Canada’s Brian Yang in straight games, 21-18, 21-13, in a composed and clinical performance lasting 47 minutes. After a close start, Shetty took the lead midway through the first game and held on to win. He maintained a clear advantage in the second game.

Shetty had earlier beaten top seed Chou Tien Chen in the semifinals. This victory is seen as a step forward in his career after several consistent performances in recent months.

In the women’s singles final, 16-year-old Tanvi Sharma finished as runner-up after losing to top seed Beiwen Zhang in three games, 11-21, 21-16, 10-21. Sharma was playing in her first BWF World Tour final.

Zhang took control early in the match, winning the first game. Sharma responded in the second, building a lead and forcing a decider. However, Zhang regained control in the third game, and Sharma was unable to keep up after a physically demanding week.

The US Open results mark a strong showing for India, with both Shetty and Sharma reaching the finals. The BWF World Tour continues with upcoming events where both players are expected to participate.
