Community leaders, elected officials and Indian American organisations gathered this weekend at the India Community Centre in Milpitas, California, to mark Martyrs’ Day, paying tribute to Kashmiri Hindus forced from their homes in 1990 and honouring others who gave their lives for India.
The Sept. 14 commemoration, organised by the Avanti Foundation, spotlighted the 1990 exodus of more than 350,000 Kashmiri Hindus, also known as Kashmiri Pandits, who fled amid targeted violence.
