AAPIs, broader public split on meaning of being American

Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) differ from the broader U.S. public on what it means to be “truly American,” a new national survey has found, highlighting wider gaps in belonging, perception and policy attitudes.
The findings come from the 2026 Social Tracking of Asian Americans in the U.S. (STAATUS) Index, released by The Asian American Foundation and conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago.
