A total of 261 elected representatives in 29 foreign countries have their roots in India, according to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs data revealed on Aug.21. Mauritius has the highest number with 45 Indian-origin leaders, followed by Guyana with 33, the United Kingdom with 31, France with 24.
Canada has also recorded a significant presence, with 22 Indian-origin Members of Parliament in the current House of Commons. This marks an increase from 17 MPs in the previous Canadian government. Suriname has 21 representatives of Indian descent, Trinidad and Tobago 18, and both Malaysia and Fiji 17 each. The United States has six elected representatives of Indian origin.
