Two Indians killed in road accident in Italy

Two Indian nationals from Nagpur were killed in a road accident near Grosseto in Italy, the Indian Embassy in Rome confirmed on Oct. 3.

“The Embassy conveys its heartfelt and sincere condolences for the tragic loss of two Indian nationals from Nagpur in an accident near Grosseto,” the Embassy posted on X, adding that it is in contact with the family and local Italian authorities.

Local reports said the accident occurred shortly before 9 a.m. and involved a van and a nine-seater minibus carrying tourists of Asian origin. Three people were killed on the spot, while five others, including two children, sustained injuries, some of them serious.

Emergency services launched a large-scale rescue operation. Firefighters freed the injured from the wreckage, while medical personnel, supported by two rescue helicopters, transported them to hospitals in Siena, Florence and Grosseto.

Traffic police, carabinieri, and technicians from road management company ANAS were deployed at the scene to regulate traffic and begin reconstructing the sequence of events. An investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
