On Apr.19, the India House in Houston, the energy capital of the world,  was brimming with energy—not for a Bollywood star, nor a spiritual guru, but for a mind that effortlessly traverses history, economics, governance, and technology. Sanjeev Sanyal, Secretary to the Government of India and a key member of Prime Minister Modi’s Economic Advisory Council, took center stage at the 2025 Tagore Talk. Judging by the overflowing audience, his presence commanded the kind of enthusiasm reserved for intellectual rock stars—those whose ideas, rather than celebrity status, ignite change.

A Polymath in Action

Sanyal is no ordinary economist. He is a historian, a policy strategist, a futurist, and a disruptive thinker. His intellectual curiosity knows no boundaries—whether reviving India’s maritime heritage by reconstructing ancient stitched ships, reimagining economic models, or unraveling governance bottlenecks with data-driven precision. His ability to seamlessly connect these disciplines underscores his rare status as a modern polymath.

The evening commenced with a soul-stirring rendition of Rabindranath Tagore’s Anandaloke, performed by young members of the Tagore Society of Houston (TSH). TSH President Dhruba Ghose welcomed the audience, reaffirming the organization’s commitment to preserving Tagore’s ideals. Honorable DC Manjunath, Consul General of India in Houston, reflected on why Tagore’s philosophy remains relevant in today’s rapidly evolving world. Sunanda Vashisht, a noted journalist, introduced Mr. Sanyal and moderated the discussion, setting the stage for a powerful exchange.
