This year’s Times Square Durga Puja celebration in New York City will take place on Sept. 27-28, the Bengali Club USA announced.
This will mark the second global celebration of Durga Puja at Times Square, following the highly successful 2024 edition that drew over 120,000 participants from across the globe.
Durga Puja was inscribed by UNESCO in 2021 as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, honoring its cultural significance. “To honor the recognition of UNESCO, we have broken the tradition of traditional temples and ceremonies inside the four walls, and have organized this event in the open courtyard of New York City's Times Square, to showcase our glorious religious culture and tradition,” the organization said in a statement.
The event promises a vibrant fusion of culture, religion, and art with global participation. Highlights include live global broadcasts, cultural performances, and showcases of traditional Bengali cuisine and handicrafts.
National Award-Winning actress Rituparna Sengupta is the Goodwill ambassador of the event from India.
