Gadkari, who joined the department of chemistry at the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities in 2022, received the award for his proposal to advance RNA structural analysis through covalent labeling mass spectrometry.

As RNA-based therapeutics become increasingly vital in modern medicine, Gadkari’s research aims to develop new tools for studying RNA structure with enhanced precision. The funding provided by ASMS will empower his team to push the boundaries of RNA analysis, continuing a trajectory his lab has been charting since its inception.

The Gadkari Research Group, which now includes six graduate students and one undergraduate, works at the intersection of bioanalytical chemistry and chemical biology. Their focus spans structural studies of proteins and nucleic acids, neurodegenerative disease mechanisms, and bioanalytical method development. Gadkari’s commitment to scientific advancement was also recognized in 2020 when ASMS named him an Emerging Talent in Academia.

Gadkari earned his B.S. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from The Ohio State University, followed by postdoctoral training at the University of Michigan.
