અમેરિકાના નાગરિક અધિકારોના પ્રખર નેતા અને આઇકોન રેવ. જેસી જેક્સન સીનિયર ૮૪ વર્ષની વયે ૧૭ ફેબ્રુઆરીએ અવસાન પામ્યા છે. તેમના અવસાન પર અમેરિકાના ધારાસભ્યો તેમજ વિવિધ એડવોકસી જૂથો તરફથી શ્રદ્ધાંજલિનો પ્રવાહ વહી રહ્યો છે.
જેક્સન વોશિંગ્ટન ડીસીના પૂર્વ શેડો યુ.એસ. સેનેટર હતા અને નાગરિક અધિકાર આંદોલન દરમિયાન માર્ટિન લ્યુથર કિંગ જુનિયર અને જેમ્સ બેવલના શિષ્ય હતા.
