Instagram chief Adam Mosseri has ordered most of his staff in the United States to return to the office five days a week, from Feb. 2, 2026, according to an internal memo obtained by Business Insider.
In the memo, titled "Building a Winning Culture in 2026," Mosseri mentioned that this reported upcoming change applies to employees in US offices with assigned desks.
This new mandate by Instagram reportedly aims to boost creativity and collaboration. In the memo, first reported by Alex Heath's Sources newsletter, Mosseri wrote,
"I believe that we are more creative and collaborative when we are together in-person. I felt this pre-COVID and I feel it any time I go to our New York office where the in-person culture is strong."
With this change, Instagram will become the first Meta-owned company to reinstate five days of work from office in a week.
The memo also reportedly included a series of other changes, including fewer meetings for employees and introductions of more product prototypes than slide decks, among others.
"I want most of your time focused on building great products, not preparing for meetings," wrote Mosseri.
"Prototypes allow us to establish a proof of concept and get a real sense for social dynamics, and we use them far too infrequently," he added.
While mentioning that the upcoming year is ‘going to be tough,’ Mosseri explained the intent behind these changes, and wrote,
"2026 is going to be tough, as was 2025, but I'm excited about our momentum and our plans for next year. These changes are going to meaningfully help us move Instagram forward in a way we can all be proud of — with creativity, boldness, and craft."
Earlier this year, Amazon asked many of its corporate employees to return to the office five days a week, while other tech giants, including Alphabet, Apple, and Microsoft, called their staff to be in the office at least three days a week.
