Indian-origin British YouTuber Arun Rupesh Maini, known online as MrWhoseTheBoss, has revealed that he was detained, strip-searched and deported from the United States after arriving for a work assignment several years ago, describing the experience as “very violating.”

Maini, 30, spoke about the incident during an interview with gaming and technology news website Dexerto. He said the episode continues to affect the way he travels to the US.

Maini is a UK-born technology content creator with more than 22.5 million subscribers on YouTube. His channel features smartphone reviews, gadget tests and other technology-related videos.

According to Maini, the incident occurred after he accepted what he described as the “biggest offer” of his career, a $300,000 deal to cover the construction of a high-tech stadium project in the United States.

He told Dexerto he was excited about the assignment before being stopped by US Border Patrol officials shortly after landing.

“Flew to the US. I got interviewed by the Border Patrol… So they took me to a back room, and they said ‘You can’t take your phone out,’” Maini said.

He said he was unable to inform sponsors waiting for him because authorities had taken his phone.

“So I had all these people like the sponsors waiting for me, and I couldn’t tell them that I’d been pulled into this room,” he said.

Maini said officials later moved him into another room and questioned him further.

“They started to become really accusatory,” he said. “And eventually, they took me into a deeper room. I was scared at this point. All the guards were armed.”

He said he was then strip-searched.

“They took me into a cell, took all my clothes off, and felt around in all sorts of ways,” Maini said.

He described the experience as “very violating.”

Maini said he was eventually allowed to put his clothes back on, but authorities continued to hold his phone. He said he spent 26 hours in detention and was unable to contact his family during that time.

After more than a day in confinement, he said he was placed on a flight back to the United Kingdom.

“I got deported,” Maini told Dexerto. “And they didn’t even give me my phone till the flight had taken off.”

According to Maini, he was only able to contact his family after the plane departed and reassure them that he was safe.

He also said the incident continues to affect his travel experience in the United States.

“Every single time I travel to the US now, I get taken to a second room, I get interviewed because there’s this black mark next to my name,” he said.
