TIME magazine has recognized a deepfake detector created by Atlanta-based cybersecurity company, Pindrop Security, among its Best Inventions of 2025.
Founded by Indian American CEO Vijay Balasubramaniyan, the firm’s technology called ‘Pindrop Pulse for Meetings’ verifies in real time that the right person is on the other end of a call—audio or video—preventing impersonation scams within seconds.

In TIME’s profile, Balasubramaniyan said, “Identity, consent, and accountability are society’s contracts. Deepfakes erode all three.”
The publication also cited Pindrop’s internal research, which found that deepfakes were becoming increasingly common in job interviews, and one fake chief financial officer impersonation led to $25 million in fraudulent transfers last year.
Responding to the recognition in a LinkedIn post, Balasubramaniyan said it was “both humbling and energizing.” “At Pindrop, we’re pushing the boundaries of voice and deepfake detection technology to help organizations extract genuine insights and trust from every conversation,” he said.
Founded in 2011, Pindrop provides enterprise-grade solutions for voice authentication and fraud prevention to major financial, insurance, and telecommunications firms.
Its innovations are based on Balasubramaniyan’s doctoral research at Georgia Tech, which focused on identifying acoustic features to distinguish legitimate users from fraudulent ones.
Built on research conducted at the Georgia Institute of Technology, the Pindrop Pulse for Meetings has already been deployed across major enterprise clients.
A native of Bengaluru, India, Balasubramaniyan earned his bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering from RV College of Engineering before completing his doctorate at Georgia Tech.
Under his leadership, Pindrop has raised more than $200 million in venture funding and established itself as a leader in AI-driven voice security.
