Indian seamer Umesh Yadav, 35, joined Essex County Cricket Club for the final three matches of the LV= Insurance County Championship, replacing New Zealand player Doug Bracewell whose stint ended with Essex in July.

Twelve rounds of fixtures have benn played since the county championship began in April. The next three fixtures will be played between September 3-22, before the final round of fixtures begins on September 26. Yadav will be eligible for selection in Essex matches against Middlesex and Hampshire and the end of season trip to Northamptonshire, as per a news release by the club.

“I enjoyed playing in England with Middlesex last season, and it will be good to return and test myself in those conditions again, especially in the midst of a title race,” Yadav, who was signed with Middlesex Cricket for the 2022 season said. He will play against Middlesex on September 4 at The Cloud County Ground.

The cricketer said that he was “pleased to join Essex and make what I hope will be some valuable contributions to the team’s success this year.” Yadav has played 57 test matches for India alongside 75 One-Day Internationals and nine T20 internationals, during which he has taken a combined 288 wickets.

Essex head coach Anthony McGrath said, “Umesh is a superb signing for us, and we all know what he will be able to bring to our attack at a crucial time of the season. He is vastly experienced and has taken wickets at the top levels of the game for more than a decade now, so as well as contributing during our run-in, we hope he can pass on some of his wisdom to our young players too.”
