National Cricket League secures ICC approval

The tournament will take place from Oct 4–14 at the University of Texas at Dallas, marking the first national sports league partnership with a U.S. university.

The National Cricket League (NCL) announced three major developments ahead of its inaugural 2024 Sixty Strikes Tournament, wherein it received approval from the International Cricket Council (ICC), appointed former ICC CEO Haroon Lorgat as commissioner, and secured Dubai-based SEE Holdings as its sustainability title sponsor.

Haroon Lorgat, a veteran in cricket administration, brings extensive leadership experience to the league. His career includes overseeing three Cricket World Cups and pioneering key initiatives like the Decision Review System (DRS). Lorgat’s leadership of the NCL marks a new chapter for cricket in the United States, where the league aims to attract a wide audience with its fast-paced Sixty Strikes format.

"I'm privileged to take on this role with the National Cricket League at such a transformative moment," said Haroon Lorgat, commissioner of the NCL. "Cricket is a sport with the power to inspire new players and connect fans across the U.S. We're bringing something fresh, and with our focus on sustainability and global access, we are laying the groundwork to reshape American sports for future generations."

SEE Holdings, a leader in sustainability, will support the NCL’s commitment to eco-friendly practices, including plans to make the event carbon-neutral by 2030. Solar energy will power key areas, and the league will plant trees for every boundary and six runs scored, aligning with global reforestation efforts.

The NCL, which has partnered with broadcasters like ESPN, Pluto TV, and Fox Sports, will feature cricket legends such as Wasim Akram and Shahid Afridi, alongside top international players. Tickets for the Sixty Strikes Tournament are available at NCLCricket.com.
