Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who made his debut as Team India's T20I captain, led the team to a victory over Ireland in the first match of the three-game series in Dublin. India won the rain-shortened match by the Duckworth-Lewis method, with Bumrah named player of the match.

Bumrah's return to international cricket after an 11-month injury layoff was spectacular, as he picked up two crucial wickets in his first over, limiting Ireland to 139 runs for seven wickets.

During the post-match presentation, Bumrah thanked the staff at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, India, where he underwent his recovery. "Felt very good out in the middle, so many sessions I did at the National Cricket Academy, didn't feel I missed out a lot or was doing something new. Credit to the support staff, they kept me in good spirits.”

Commenting on the win, the 29-year-old cricketer said, “There was some swing upfront so we wanted to use it and luckily we won the toss and it was coming out fine. There was some help due to the weather as well. In every game, you would want more. Even when you win, there are areas to improve on. Everybody is very confident, they are very well prepared."

On Ireland's fight back, Bumrah said, "They played well, after a crisis, they played well. Credit where it is due." the second match of the series is scheduled for August 20, 2023.
