Gupta, a critical care pulmonologist and public health expert, currently serves as managing director at Manatt Health, where his work focuses on integrating technology into medical education, developing hospital-at-home programs, and advising organizations on public health strategy and communication.

He is also a longtime medical analyst for NBC News and MSNBC and holds the title of affiliate assistant professor at the University of Washington.

In addition to his work in clinical medicine and public health policy, Gupta serves as a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force Medical Service Reserves, where he is officer-in-charge of a Critical Care Air Transport Team.

“Dr. Gupta’s career reflects the values we aim to instill in our students: rigor, service, and a commitment to advancing health through innovation and compassion,” said John Dalrymple, dean and chief executive officer of the school.

“His work across clinical care, public health, and technology exemplifies the multifaceted leadership our graduates will bring to the communities they serve. We are honored to welcome him as this year’s commencement speaker,” Dalrymple added.

“There’s no greater or more humbling privilege than to be entrusted to speak to the next generation of healthcare leaders on one of the most special days of their lives,” Gupta said. “KPSOM is the vanguard of medical education’s future, and I am thrilled to serve as commencement speaker this year.”

The Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine said the ceremony will mark the graduation of the Class of 2026 as students prepare to enter residency programs across the United States.
