Intel has recognized two Indian-origin researchers among the recipients of its 2025 Outstanding Researcher Awards.
Vijay Raghunathan of Purdue University and Visvesh Sathe of the Georgia Institute of Technology were recognized for university research that is helping advance artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology and other areas of computing.
The annual awards honor researchers whose work, supported through Intel-sponsored university research, has contributed to technological innovation and strengthened collaboration between academia and industry.

Raghunathan, vice president and professor at Purdue University was recognized for research into multimodal system understanding and heterogeneous AI computing across central processing units, graphics processing units and neural processing units.
His research focuses on coordinating different types of computing engines to improve performance and energy efficiency in increasingly complex AI systems. The work covers transformers, vision-language models, vision-language-action models, graph neural networks and emerging architectures such as Mamba and state space networks.
According to Intel, Raghunathan’s research introduced techniques for cross-accelerator coordination that improved computing performance and energy efficiency while contributing to the development of Intel’s next-generation AI platforms and system architectures.
Sathe, an associate professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology was honored for research on runtime thermal management in scaled 3D system-on-chip technologies.
As semiconductor designs become increasingly compact and complex, managing heat has become critical to maintaining reliable and energy-efficient operation. Sathe’s research developed compact digital temperature sensors designed to provide precise thermal monitoring while minimizing noise and calibration requirements.
Intel, in a statement said the sensors were validated across multiple test chips and firmware implementations and can provide detailed thermal monitoring while scaling across semiconductor processes.
The program is led by Intel’s Corporate Research Council and brings together researchers from universities, research centers and technology partners working on areas relevant to the company’s future technology platforms.
