Indian-origin professor Vishal Narayan was recently named the Associate Dean of Graduate Business Programs at the University of Connecticut (UConn) School of Business.
In 2022, Narayan joined the School of Business as an associate professor in the marketing department, noting that he chose UConn because it values excellence in both research and teaching. His research interests include social media, marketing in emerging markets, and digital marketing analytics.
A graduate of Delhi College of Engineering and the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow, Narayan moved to the United States in 2022 and acquired a PhD in Marketing from the NYU Stern School of Business.

Having industry experience from working at Asian Paints and Accenture before moving to the USA, Narayan joined Cornell University as an associate Professor of Marketing.
Vishal Narayan has taught Marketing Management, Digital Marketing and Consulting Practicum in various MBA and Executive MBA programs in the US, Singapore, China and India. Before joining UConn, he taught at the National University of Singapore, winning the Best MBA Teaching Award for 2020-21 during his time there. Narayan also went on to serve as the deputy academic director of its MBA program.
Announcing the news of his appointment, Narayan said on LinkedIn, "I’m honored to share that I am stepping into the role of Associate Dean of Graduate Programs at University of Connecticut School of Business."
Narayan also thanked his predecessor, Jose Cruz, for his "guidance and support during this transition."
Expressing excitement over the new role, he said "Looking forward to working together with our incredible graduate programs team, and the impact they create."
Narayan's area of research centers around how consumer level data from social media can be used to make better marketing and policy decisions. His published research studies how consumers’ online health discussions change due to health policy, and how increases in worker minimum wages in the restaurant industry affect consumer perceptions of restaurant service.
