Born in Kolkata and shaped by the teachings of Swami Vivekananda, Indian American engineer Mithun Banerjee has taken an unlikely leap—from the quiet rigour of electrical-engineering labs and NASA review panels to the noisy, bare-knuckle world of county politics.

Now a candidate for Montgomery County Executive in Maryland, Banerjee brings a technocrat’s precision and an immigrant’s conviction to one of America’s most prosperous—and politically complex—suburban counties.
