Four Indian Americans—Nikesh Arora, Mahzarin Banaji, Dr. Sanjiv Chopra, and Reshma Kewalramani—along with Kenyan-born history professor Sunil Amrith, have been named to the Carnegie Corporation of New York’s prestigious 2026 Class of Great Immigrants, Great Americans.
The honorees represent a diverse array of leaders across business, science, and academia. While Arora, chairman and CEO of leading Silicon Valley-based AI-powered cybersecurity firm Palo Alto networks and Kewalramani, president and CEO of Boston-based Vertex Pharmaceuticals, are well recognised business leaders; Hyderabad-born social psychologist Banaji and Delhi-born physician Dr Chopra are professors at Harvard University. Amrith, an eminent historian who immigrated from Kenya, currently serving as the Renu and Anand Dhawan Professor of History, Director of the MacMillan Center, and Vice Provost for International Affairs at Yale University.
The 2026 Class of Great Immigrants, which is announced on the eve of American Independence Day, July 4th, highlights naturalized citizens from 21 countries who are honored for their achievements in academia, the arts, business, medicine, sports, science, technology, engineering, and math. This year, on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Carnegie also recognizes the eight foreign-born signers of the country’s founding document.
