Canadian engineering academy honors Indian-origin professors

Indian Professor Ganapati Dadasaheb Yadav and Indian American Professor Kaushik Rajashekara have been featured on the list as international fellows.

The Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE) has elected two professors with Indian roots to its list of fellows, CAE President Catherine Karakatsanis announced May 11.

The CAE, during the academy’s annual general meeting held via videoconference, brought in a total of 56 new fellows to its fold, including 50 Canadian fellows and six international fellows.

Indian Professor Ganapati Dadasaheb Yadav and Indian-origin Professor Kaushik Rajashekara have been featured on the list as international fellows.

The elected fellows represent a wide range of engineering disciplines, including biomedical engineering, clean energy, robotics, nuclear technology, sustainable materials, telecommunications, artificial intelligence and structural engineering.

“I am delighted to welcome the new fellows to the academy whose impressive accomplishments and leadership in their respective fields have significantly advanced engineering in both Canada and around the world,” said President Karakatsanis.

She continued, “Their outstanding contributions and dedication to excellence serve as an inspiration to us all.”

Professor Krishnaswamy Rajashekara is a globally renowned engineer and academic recognized for his pioneering contributions to transportation electrification, electric and hybrid vehicles, fuel-cell systems and hybrid aircraft technologies.

A Ph.D. holder from the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, he currently serves as the Hugh Roy and Lillie Cranz Cullen Distinguished University Professor at the University of Houston.

He is a recipient of the prestigious Global Energy Prize and the IEEE Medal for Environmental and Safety Technologies and has been elected to the engineering academies of the U.S., China, Japan and India.

Professor Ganapati Dadasaheb Yadav is a renowned Indian chemical engineer, educator and former vice chancellor of the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai. He is a Padma Shri awardee and a leading expert in green chemistry, catalysis and sustainable technologies.

He has authored more than 570 research papers, holds more than 130 patents and is also an elected fellow of multiple other prestigious academies, including TWAS and INSA.

The Canadian Academy of Engineering, established in 1987, is a national institution that provides strategic advice on engineering and technology matters critical to Canada. Fellows are elected by their peers based on distinguished career achievements and are committed to applying Canada’s engineering expertise for the benefit of society.

This new cohort of fellows brings significant expertise in addressing key national priorities such as clean energy, sustainability, advanced manufacturing, digital technologies and infrastructure resilience. Their induction strengthens the academy’s capacity to advise policymakers and support innovation across Canada.
