The award was presented during the statewide final held last month as part of the Nucleate Texas Activator program, an equity-free startup accelerator designed to help academic researchers and early-stage faculty commercialize innovations emerging from university laboratories.
The recognition marked the culmination of Texas State University’s first participation in the accelerator program.
Shreek Mandayam, Texas State’s vice president for research, said the partnership with Nucleate reflects the university’s commitment to translating research discoveries into practical solutions that benefit communities.
The initiative was supported by Carolyn T. Chang, director of the Bioscience Education and Training Research Programs at the university’s Translational Health Research Center. Chang helped establish the accelerator partnership and coordinated student participation, including transportation to the final event, where students networked with investors, scientists and startup founders from across Texas.
Texas State also launched the BobCatalyst Innovation Accelerator Program, led by Matt Sorenson, director of venture development in the Office of Innovation, Commercialization and Engagement.
