Indian American celebrity chef and television host Padma Lakshmi sharply criticized Vice President JD Vance's cooking skills and took a pointed jab at his wife, Usha Vance, during a recent appearance on 'The Daily Show.'

In a segment highlighting reasons to "dislike" JD Vance, Lakshmi zeroed in on a reported dish where Vance baked vegetables and ranch dressing on a crescent roll, calling it "so bad." She contrasted this with Usha Vance's Indian heritage, noting the "very deep vast culinary tradition" from which she comes.

"And also he's married to an Indian woman. So she comes from this very deep, vast culinary tradition, you know, and he's giving her ranch dressing," Lakshmi said.

Lakshmi further remarked on Vance's remark on Usha's vegetarian preferences, which reportedly limit her to bread, vegetables, and dairy. She compared this to her own experiences in long-term relationships, where partners share a broader range of foods, including rice, lentils, beans, and squash, over a decade or more.

"Also, he said she's a vegetarian. She only eats bread, vegetables, and dairy. Aren't you married to this person for over a decade? And we eat lots of things, right? Rice, lentils, beans, squash, all this stuff," Lakshmi stated.

She concluded her critique with a direct assessment of Usha Vance's judgment, suggesting the food choice might align with her preferences: "Maybe he knows what she likes because she doesn't really have good taste."

The comments came amid a broader discussion on the show about Vance's personal habits and choices, with the culinary critique presented as one unexpected angle among many.

The clip, shared widely on platforms including YouTube and Facebook, features Lakshmi in conversation with a host, framing the remarks as part of a humorous yet pointed roast of the vice president.

Lakshmi, known for her Hulu series 'Taste the Nation' and her expertise in diverse cuisines, did not elaborate further on the couple but used the anecdote to underscore what she views as a mismatch between cultural expectations and the dish in question.

No immediate response from JD Vance or Usha Vance was noted in the segment.
