Indian American Congressman Suhas Subramanyam said President Donald Trump has “completely messed up” the India-U.S. relationship, warning that deteriorating ties between the world’s two largest democracies are hurting both countries’ economic and strategic interests.
“In the end, the Trump administration has completely messed up the U.S.-India relationship,” Subramanyam said, pointing to a sharp reversal from Trump’s first term. “This was an administration which, in its first term, President Trump actually strengthened the relationship with Prime Minister Modi,” he told IANS in an interview.

To start with US Congress is the most powerful useless body of the USA.
It will not create a law that simply says "SPEND 95% of WHAT YOU COLLECT" and the 5% goes towards an emergency fund held in gold and other metals to help with any disaster over $100B. That will solve 90% of US's problems. US Congress is the reason the USA is in financial trouble with each Congressman wanting to donate to the country of his origin.
US has done worse with India. Refused food on loan when Indians were dying of hunger. Sent the most powerful fleet in the world to fight India in the 1971 war only to see USSR submarines waiting to welcome them. Nothing can be worse. USA was cozying up with India in the hopes that India would be another Ukraine and start a China-India war. Trump saw that India would not do it. Just cannot go direct with India in that respect. And lest not forget USA involvement in destabilizing Bangladesh that is killing Hindus in Bangladesh and Bengal.
Relations between two countries are very transactional. Bad relations become good the minute two nations need each other. Even the best of relations like Russia-India become neutral relations like we saw from the 1990s to 2025. Thanks to Trump, India remembered that Russia is more than an economic relationship.
For example, what is seen as the best relationship between US and UK will collapse the minute USA stops free money in grants and military support. We see that with European nations and USA. If not for a strong Russia and the freebies, Europe would leave USA. NATO is for the security of Europe and Canada and they must start to paying proportionately for their security based on distance from Russia and size of country by land, population and economy. USA does not need NATO, it is better off with a better relationship with Russia that will listen to the USA when a war is brewing.
I feel for my birth country but it must be left to grow on its own. And it has done that with all the foreign meddling and if history is any proof it will continue to grow. It's problems are more internal than external with a people brainwashed with heroes that were not but those working for foreign powers while living in luxury. And so Modi, BJP and RSS are spoilers called nationalists and not patriots. Like I say, Trump is a patriot of America and a nationalist to everyone else.
