The United States of America offers a unique opportunity to worship as you see fit, said Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy in Trumbull County, Ohio.

Referencing the recent attack on Jews at Bondi beach in Australia, Ramaswamy said in a video he posted on X, "the beauty of our country is you're able to worship freely without somebody, you know, not only have government threatening you, but somebody going unaccountable committing violence."

A mass shooting occurred at Bondi Beach in Sydney on Dec. 14, 2025, during a Hanukkah celebration. At least 15 people were killed and dozens injured. Authorities believe that a father-son duo was behind the attack, with one of them killed and the other in critical condition.

He also pointed out the beefed up police presence outside places of worship, especially synagogues, and noted that the increased police presence is making people feel safer.

Ramaswamy said, "For the Christian faith, for the Jewish faith, for the Hindu faith, whatever your faith is, you have in this country the unique opportunity to worship as you see fit without any man system, government, or bureaucracy getting in your way.

He added, "That is the essence of what it means to be an American. If we lose that, we're nothing as a people. And I think part of what's happened is that, you know, the culture, the new cult."
