NJ Symphony to host ‘Hooray for Bollywood’ extravaganza
Virtuoso South Asian musicians, including prominent sitar player Indrajit Roy-Chowdhury, will join the Symphony conducted by Vinay Parameswaran.

The New Jersey Symphony has announced a new family concert “Hooray for Bollywood†on May 13, 2023, at the NJ Performing Arts Center in Newark. The concert will feature an ensemble of instrumental and vocal music, dance and a western orchestra.
Virtuoso South Asian musicians, including prominent sitar player Indrajit Roy-Chowdhury, will join the Symphony conducted by Vinay Parameswaran. Award-winning pianist, composer and journalist Charu Suri will perform for the audience, the symphony announced.
Additionally dynamic dance routines, vocal accompaniments by Indian dance and music students from Kulture Kool and Bollywood numbers from classic films will also be part of the show.
“Indian music in all its genres is so rich, sophisticated and expansive and is deeply embedded in the daily lives of not just the South Asian diaspora but many other cultures all over the world. We are delighted to bring the vibrant music of an entire sub-continent in a new and exciting format through this concert,†said Archana Athalye, director of Kulture Kool and host of this performance.
“We are thrilled to be collaborating with Vinay Parameswaran and Kulture Kool to bring this exciting and unique performance to the stage,†said Erin Lunsford Norton, vice president of Artistic Planning at the New Jersey Symphony. “The fusion of Indian music and Western orchestration is a testament to the power of music to unite people across cultures and borders,†he added.
ભારતીય વંશનો ૯ વર્ષીય ફૂટબોલર અર્બન નેગીએ ઇંગ્લિશ પ્રીમિયર લીગની જાણીતી ક્લબ એવર્ટન એફસીની એકેડેમીમાં સ્થાન મેળવ્યું છે. સાઉથ ઇસ્ટ લંડનનો આ નાનકડો ખેલાડી ગ્રાસરૂટ્સ લેવલ પર શાનદાર પ્રદર્શન કરી રહ્યો હતો, જેના કારણે ક્લબના કોચનું ધ્યાન ખેંચાયું હતું.
એવર્ટને શુક્રવારે આ વાતની પુષ્ટિ કરી હતી કે અર્બને ક્લબના યુથ ટ્રેનિંગ બેઝ ફિંચ ફાર્મ ખાતે યોજાયેલી ટ્રાયલમાં કોચને ખૂબ પ્રભાવિત કર્યા હતા.
અર્બન માત્ર ૭ વર્ષની ઉંમરે સ્થાનિક ક્લબ ડાયનેમો યુથ એફસી સાથે રમવા લાગ્યો હતો. આ ક્લબ નાની ઉંમરના ખેલાડીઓને તૈયાર કરવા માટે પ્રખ્યાત છે. તેની ટેકનિક, બોલ કંટ્રોલ અને દબાણ હેઠળ શાંત રહેવાની ક્ષમતાને કારણે તેને સતત વખાણ મળતા રહ્યા, જેના પરિણામે એવર્ટનની યુથ સેટઅપમાં ટ્રેનિંગ માટે આમંત્રણ મળ્યું.
સોશિયલ મીડિયા પર વાયરલ થયેલા વીડિયોમાં અર્બન બોલને સરળતાથી નિયંત્રણમાં રાખતો, હરીફોને છકાવતો અને દબાણમાં પણ શાંત રહીને રમતો જાેવા મળે છે. આ વીડિયો ભારતમાં ખૂબ ચર્ચામાં રહ્યા છે કારણ કે પ્રીમિયર લીગની એકેડેમીમાં ભારતીય મૂળના ખેલાડીઓનું પ્રતિનિધિત્વ હજુ દુર્લભ છે.
અર્બન એવર્ટનનો ખૂબ માેટો ચાહક છે અને ક્લબના નંબર ૧૦ ઇલિમાન એનડિયાને પોતાનો આદર્શ માને છે. એનડિયાની સર્જનાત્મક રમતના કારણે તે યુવા ચાહકોમાં ખૂબ લોકપ્રિય છે.
ક્લબ અધિકારીઓએ જણાવ્યું કે અર્બનની ભરતી એવર્ટનના નવા ટેકનિકલ ડિરેક્ટર નિક કોક્સની નીતી હેઠળની નવી નીતિ સાથે સંપૂર્ણ સુસંગત છે. એકેડેમી હવે નાની ઉંમરે જ પ્રતિભાશાળી ખેલાડીઓને ઓળખવા પર ખાસ ભાર મૂકી રહી છે. તાજેતરમાં ક્લબે દેશભરમાં સ્કાઉટ્સની ભરતી માટે જાહેરાત કરી હતી અને પ્રી-એકેડેમી કાર્યક્રમ માટેના ધોરણો પણ સ્પષ્ટ કર્યા છે. જાહેરાતમાં કહેવામાં આવ્યું છે કે આ ભૂમિકા દર વર્ષે ટોચના અંડર-૮ ખેલાડીઓને ઓળખવામાં અને ખેલાડીઓ તેમજ તેમના વાલીઓને વિશ્વકક્ષાનો અનુભવ આપવામાં મદદ કરશે.
