Sandarsh Krishna / Grand Canyon National Park
The National Park Service announced May 12 the recovery of Indian-origin Sandarsh Krishna’s body, weeks after he went missing at Grand Canyon National Park.
The 26-year-old Krishna went missing from the Rim Trail on Hermit Road between Bright Angel Lodge and Mohave Point on April 28. This subsequently triggered search and rescue operations by the Park Service in hopes of finding Krishna.
A black backpack, believed to be Krishna’s, was found abandoned and brought to Bright Angel Lodge on April 28 at approximately 7 a.m. by an unknown individual, prompting the NPS to look for possible clues in that direction.

Over the last several days, more than 30 search and rescue personnel conducted extensive operations both above and below the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park using multiple search techniques, including rim trail scanning, walk-down routes, technical rope insertions, aerial reconnaissance flights and drone operations.
Krishna’s body was subsequently found May 9. National Park Service personnel recovered a body below the rim near Verkamp’s Visitor Center on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park.
In a statement, the NPS said, “The individual was transported to the rim and transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office. The individual was identified as Sandarsh Krishna, 26, who had been reported missing on April 28, 2026.”
The NPS also noted that the incident is still under investigation by the National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office.
