An Indian-origin doctor has been arrested in the U.S. on three counts of sexual battery after former students and trainees accused him of performing unnecessary and inappropriate intimate medical procedures.

Ranjith Ramasamy, 45, was arrested after he agreed to travel from Dubai to South Florida to surrender following an investigation by Miami police, according to court and jail records.

He was arrested at Miami International Airport at around 10:45 a.m. on Aug. 20 by deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

Ramasamy is a urologist specializing in sexual medicine, male infertility and reproductive medicine and surgery. He previously served at the University of Miami as director of Male Reproductive Medicine and Surgery, assistant professor of urology and associate professor of urology. Since 2024, he has worked as a consultant urologist at the Jumeirah American Clinic in Dubai, according to an arrest warrant.

The warrant said multiple former male students, fellows and trainees came forward alleging that Ramasamy used his position to subject them to inappropriate medical examinations and procedures.

One former trainee said that while working under Ramasamy in 2020, he was advised to undergo a semen analysis and weekly scrotal ultrasounds. Ramasamy later recommended a prostate examination, but a medical expert determined that the examination was improper and had no medical purpose, the warrant said.

The expert further concluded that the victim was subjected to painful examinations of his testicles and penis and that a false diagnosis was used to justify a rectal examination, according to the warrant.

A second victim, who worked as a medical student research fellow under Ramasamy in 2022, said the doctor requested semen samples from male students for a research project. Ramasamy later recommended additional testing, including a rectal prostate examination.

The victim told investigators that the examination was significantly longer and more aggressive than examinations he had observed Ramasamy perform on patients, the warrant said.

Between October 2022 and March 2023, Ramasamy allegedly performed what he described as “rectal and prostatic massages” on the victim for physical therapy. An expert later determined that the procedures were inconsistent with the standard of care and were performed alone, after normal business hours and outside the acceptable bounds of medical practice, according to the warrant.

A third victim said he was a student of Ramasamy in 2016 when the doctor requested a semen sample to create a database for a cryopreservation laboratory. Ramasamy later recommended additional testing and surgery and subsequently began performing prostate massages on him, the warrant said.

During a court hearing Thursday, Ramasamy was ordered to be held on a $120,000 bond. He was also placed under house arrest with a GPS monitor and ordered to have no contact with his accusers.
