Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi launched an America250 Photo Contest for residents of Illinois' 8th Congressional District as part of the 250th anniversary celebrations of the United States.

Announcing the initiative on social media, Krishnamoorthi invited residents to submit photographs that reflect their personal connection to America.

"Illinois' Eighth District: Show us what connects you to America," Krishnamoorthi said in a post. "As we prepare to celebrate America's 250th anniversary, my office is launching an America250 Photo Contest for IL-08 residents."

Participants are encouraged to submit any photo that showcases their connection to the country. Entries must be submitted by June 26 to IL08.America250@mail.house.gov.

Krishnamoorthi said winning or selected entries could be featured on his social media platforms and included in a digital gallery highlighting the district's participation in the nation's semiquincentennial celebrations.

The contest is tied to the nationwide America250 observance marking 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The commemoration is being coordinated by the congressionally established U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission, which was created in 2016 to plan events and initiatives leading up to the anniversary.

America250 organizers have encouraged communities across the country to participate in programs designed to engage Americans in reflecting on the nation's history, celebrating its present, and contributing to its future.

The initiative includes public events, educational programs, volunteer activities, and community-led projects in states and localities nationwide.
