The Indian Overseas Congress USA on May 4 congratulated the United Democratic Front (UDF) on its victory in the Kerala Assembly elections, as early results showed the Congress-led alliance crossing the majority mark with a decisive lead.
In a statement, the group said it was confident the incoming government would fulfill its promises and deliver transparent and accountable governance. The reaction came as the UDF surged past the 100-seat threshold, leading in 102 constituencies, while the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) trailed with 37 seats. The NDA was limited to a lead in the Nemom constituency.
“Kerala has decisively turned a new page,” said George Abraham, vice chair of the organization. “The electorate has rejected what many perceived as an increasingly authoritarian and unaccountable style of governance, and has voted in favor of change, integrity, and democratic values.”

He added that by ending what was often described as “Pinarayism,” voters had reaffirmed their commitment to competitive politics that can “effectively check communal forces and preserve the state’s social harmony.”
The organization also extended its best wishes to Opposition Leader V. D. Satheesan, crediting him with leading the campaign, and to the incoming government.
Election trends indicated setbacks for several LDF leaders. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was trailing in his Dharmadam constituency by more than 2,000 votes against UDF candidate V. P. Abdul Rasheed after the fourth round of counting. Several cabinet ministers, including P. Rajeeve, K. B. Ganesh Kumar, Veena George and R. Bindu, were also trailing.
At the same time, some LDF leaders continued to hold ground. Shailaja Teacher was leading in Peravoor, while Minister Muhammed Riyas maintained a lead in his constituency.
Among UDF candidates, several senior leaders established comfortable margins. Chandy Oommen crossed a lead of more than 20,000 votes, while V. D. Satheesan, Ramesh Chennithala and P. K. Kunhalikutty secured stable leads after early fluctuations.
As counting progressed, UDF workers began celebrations in multiple constituencies, reflecting the scale of the lead indicated by early trends.
