An Indian national wanted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was identified in a Florida jail after his arrest on a felony warrant for drug trafficking valued at more than $13 million.

According to the agency, Dipakkumar Ghelani was located on April 16 at the Duval County Pre-Trial Detention Facility. He had been arrested by the Florida Highway Patrol, which works in partnership with ICE under the 287(g) program.

“Ghelani’s arrest shows how valuable our 287(g) partnerships are,” said Todd M. Lyons. “The Florida Highway Patrol has consistently proven to be a reliable partner in supporting ICE’s efforts to arrest potentially dangerous criminal illegal aliens like Ghelani, who’s been convicted of providing alcohol to a child and arrested for felony possession of money from selling drugs, being a fugitive from justice, and drug trafficking.”

Ghelani entered the United States on March 18, 2016, on a B-2 visa valid until May 23, 2019, but stayed beyond that period. During an interview with an immigration officer, he did not provide documents showing legal status, a news release by ICE stated.

Officials said he will remain in local custody while his state charges are pending. ICE will decide on further action after those cases are resolved.
