Parminderpal Singh / ICE Los Angeles
A 26-year-old Indian national, Parminderpal Singh, has been taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Los Angeles, the agency revealed May 24.
Singh is now facing formal deportation proceedings and is set to be held in ICE custody until the required formalities are completed.
ICE accused Singh of having a long criminal record. The federal agency claimed that Singh’s criminal record includes vehicle theft, grand theft, trespassing and vandalism, prompting ICE to initiate deportation proceedings against him.
Announcing the news, ICE said on X, “ICE Los Angeles arrested Parminderpal Singh, 26, of India, May 21. Singh’s criminal record includes vehicle theft, grand theft, trespassing and vandalism.”
The agency continued, “He (Singh) is in ICE custody pending removal.”

Singh’s arrest comes amid heightened immigration enforcement action against undocumented immigrants, with a special focus on those with a criminal history.
Federal immigration authorities have also increasingly highlighted such arrests publicly through social media posts as part of their enforcement messaging.
ICE shared Singh’s photographs on its social media handles and highlighted his alleged criminal history.
According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, more than 2,400 Indian nationals have been deported or repatriated from the United States since January 2025. Indian officials have repeatedly stated that the government supports legal migration pathways while opposing illegal immigration.
As of now, ICE has not announced a date for Singh’s immigration hearing or provided further information regarding his legal representation or immigration history.
