India is pursuing a “double-just transition” that ties water and energy security to human rights, India Water Foundation has told the UN Human Rights Council adding that the approach is rooted in constitutional guarantees, participatory governance, and ecosystem restoration.
In a written statement to the United Nations Human Rights Council, the India Water Foundation said the group highlighted the Supreme Court’s 2024 ruling that expanded fundamental rights to include clean water, stable climate, and equitable access to natural resources. “This jurisprudence underscores government and corporate responsibility to ensure essential services without discrimination,” the statement noted.
