The 2026 edition of India Giving Day, held on March 13, raised US $5.6 million, highlighting the work of 51 nonprofit organizations across multiple social and environmental sectors across India.
Under the theme #PowerOfUs, the campaign’s major highlight this year was the first-of-its-kind livestream, which offered audiences an interactive format to engage with nonprofit leaders, public figures, and stakeholders.

Among participating organizations, Pallium India, Arogya World, and Vibha received top recognition for securing the highest number of donations from unique contributors. The American India Foundation, Sehgal Foundation, and Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology & the Environment (ATREE) USA recorded the highest total funds raised.
The largest event was held by Ek Kadam Aur in Germantown, Maryland, which included approximately 600 guests.
Kalpana Kanthan, a member of the India Giving Day Steering Committee and chief development officer of the America India Foundation, described the initiative as a unifying effort for the diaspora. “For the diaspora, the opportunity to move as one community often comes in the form of a festival or historic commemoration,” she said.
“We see India Giving Day as a Festival of Giving to India, a unique opportunity to be joined solely by our commitment to empowering lives and connecting to India through a movement for good,” she added.
Alex Counts, executive director of the India Philanthropy Alliance, said the campaign aimed to encourage both learning and participation in philanthropy. “There are more than 6 million Indian Americans in the United States, many of whom have been immensely successful in their careers. Every day, more of them are realizing that philanthropy is a learned skill that improves with practice and study. India Giving Day facilitated both learning and action to advance high-impact donations,” he said.
Jay Sehgal, chair of the India Philanthropy Alliance and executive vice president of the Sehgal Foundation, said the initiative has expanded since its launch. “India Giving Day, which began as an experiment four years ago, has now grown into a powerful movement. We are thrilled with its continued success this year,” he said.
"The future looks bright, especially as we see the commitment and leadership of so many young people hosting events and fundraisers for causes they care about,” he added.
This year’s campaign included more than 65 events across the United States, with additional events scheduled through the end of March in New York City, Palo Alto, West Newton, and San Francisco.
India Giving Day is led by a steering committee comprising India Philanthropy Alliance board members, staff, and campaign sponsors, along with national co-chairs, ambassadors, and a youth leadership council.
The campaign received support from the Ford Foundation, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, Avestar Capital, Parichute Donate, AATMIC, and Think Capital.
