State Senator Ghazala Hashmi, the Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia, has launched her first statewide ad, spotlighting working families and higher wages.

Hashmi was elected in the Democratic primaries on June 17 and has since then been campaigning for the upcoming Nov. 4 elections. She will be going against the Republican candidate John Reid.

Hashmi, an educator turned politician, centered her advertisement campaign around her educator-mom identity and her work on apprenticeships and technical training, as a state senator. She also campaigned on the pillars of wages and healthcare.

Sharing the video on X, she remarked, "Virginia workers know nobody is working harder for them."

She added, "As lieutenant governor, I will continue my fight to increase wages, protect affordable health care, and create opportunities for all families to thrive."

Hashmi's priorities include funding public education and lowering the cost of post-secondary education, ensuring access to affordable health care, and improving housing affordability.

Hashmi represents District 15 in the state Senate. She was first elected to the chamber in 2019, when she defeated incumbent state Sen. Glen Sturtevant.
