Ohio Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy received an endorsement from the Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association (CPPA) on April 20.

CPPA president Andrew Gasiewski said the association backed Ramaswamy for his stance on policing and public safety.

“Vivek Ramaswamy understands the challenges our members face. He’s committed to fully backing Police and Fire, protecting pensions from cuts, and defending qualified immunity. That’s why we proudly endorse Vivek Ramaswamy for governor,” Gasiewski said.

The endorsement builds on prior backing from 65 county sheriffs across Ohio, signaling continued consolidation of support for Ramaswamy within the state’s law enforcement community.

Responding to the endorsement, Ramaswamy said, “Our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe. As governor, I will always back the blue and make sure they have the resources, equipment, and support they need to protect Ohio families.”

In a post on social media, Ramaswamy said he was “honored to receive the endorsement” and added that he would work with officers to “crush crime in Cleveland & revive one of America’s greatest cities.”

Founded in 1969, the Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association represents patrol officers and provides support aimed at the welfare of its members and their families.

The endorsement comes days after Ramaswamy secured backing from the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund and the Buckeye Firearms Association PAC, reflecting support from pro-Second Amendment organizations.

His candidacy has also drawn early institutional backing, including an endorsement from the Ohio Republican Party in 2025. He also secured the backing of President Donald Trump at the launch of his campaign.

Beyond law enforcement support, Ramaswamy has received endorsements from labor groups, including the Ohio Conference of Teamsters, marking a departure from the union’s traditional support for Democratic candidates.

His campaign said it raised $19.8 million in 2025 following more than 110 in-state fundraising events, marking the highest single-year fundraising total in Ohio gubernatorial history.

Ramaswamy is on the ballot for the Republican primary scheduled for May 5.
