BJP’s US unit marks PM Modi’s 75th birthday in DC

The event was attended by members of the Indian diaspora and presided over by senior BJP leader, Member of Parliament, and former Union Cabinet minister Parshottam Rupala.

The Overseas Friends of BJP (OFBJP-USA) organized a community celebration in the Washington DC metro area on Sept. 17 to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday. 

The event was attended by members of the Indian diaspora and presided over by senior BJP leader, Member of Parliament, and former Union Cabinet minister Parshottam Rupala, who was chief guest.

Rupala, in his address, spoke at length about Modi’s leadership, highlighting the impact of the Jan Dhan Yojana in expanding financial inclusion. He also paid tribute to India’s freedom fighters and said India would realize its potential under Modi’s leadership.

The program began with a ceremonial lamp-lighting and the rendition of Vande Mataram. OFBJP-USA president Dr. Adapa Prasad welcomed attendees, emphasizing the significance of the Indian diaspora in strengthening U.S.-India ties. 

A presentation by Srinivas Nathi highlighted the Modi government's  achievements of the l over the past eleven years.

The occasion also coincided with Telangana Liberation Day, observed annually on September 17 to commemorate the merger of Hyderabad with the Union of India in 1948. Jagdish Bondugula spoke about the Telangana struggle and Operation Polo, launched under Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, which led to the Nizam’s surrender.

The dual celebration included two cakes—one marking Modi’s birthday and another commemorating Telangana Liberation Day. Organizers also felicitated Rupala on the occasion. 

Other participants included Gandhinagar BJP vice president Jaideep  Barot and community leaders Ashok Bhatt, Kanwaljit Singh Soni, and Chattar Singh Saini. 

Srinath Nampally served as emcee, with several community members assisting in the organisation. The event concluded with a community dinner.
