American citizen files PIL in Indian Supreme Court alleging gender, pay, and color bias in film industry

He argues that the victims cannot raise these issues themselves without risking career retaliation, so he stepped forward as an outsider.

An American public health professional has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court of India alleging systemic discrimination in casting and pay practices across Indian cinema.

The petitioner, Jason A. Zangara, a New Jersey resident, invoked Article 32 of the Indian Constitution to demand redress for what he calls entrenched gender bias, pay inequity, and “colourism” in Bollywood and regional industries.
