314 Action, a political organization that supports Democratic candidates with science and medical backgrounds, endorsed Tina Shah in New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District race.

The group announced its backing of Shah, as part of its  “Guardian of Public Health” slate, which works to elect 100 doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals by 2030 through a $25 million initiative.

“Dr. Tina Shah has seen firsthand how broken our health care system is—and now she’s ready to change it from the inside out,” said Shaughnessy Naughton, president of 314 Action. “As an ICU physician, Dr. Shah has spent her life caring for patients at their most vulnerable, sitting at their bedside as they face rising costs, insurance denials, and political dysfunction that puts lives at risk.”

Naughton said Shah would bring medical expertise and firsthand healthcare experience to Congress “as RFK Jr. and Trump attack our public health.”

Shah is seeking the Democratic nomination to challenge Republican Rep. Tom Kean Jr. in the battleground district.

A triple board-certified physician, Shah has worked in both the public and private sectors and served under three presidential administrations. She helped develop strategies to expand healthcare access for veterans and led federal efforts addressing physician and nurse burnout.

314 Action also said Shah supported legislation in New Jersey aimed at preventing insurance companies from denying care and reducing administrative burdens on healthcare workers.

Shah has also received endorsements from Indian American Impact Fund, which said she could become the first South Asian elected to Congress from New Jersey if elected. Democratic Reps. Ami Bera of California and Dave Min have also endorsed her campaign.

According to federal campaign filings, Shah had raised nearly $2 million as of March 31, placing her among the top fundraising candidates in the Democratic primary field.

The Democratic primary is scheduled for June 2, and the general election will be held on Nov. 3.
