The Global Indian Diaspora Foundation, with support from the Consulate General of India in Chicago, will host the “Run for India – Viksit Bharat Run” on Sept. 28, 2025, in Palatine, Illinois.
The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Twin Lakes Parking Lot 2 on Palatine Frontage Road. It is planned as a one-kilometer walk and run, bringing together members of the Indian diaspora and local community.
Somnath Ghosh, Consul General of India in Chicago, will be the chief guest. Organizers said the run is meant to highlight India’s development story and its vision of becoming a $30 trillion economy, while also promoting wellness through the nationwide FIT India Movement.
According to the official announcement, the program will “showcase innovation and growth through initiatives such as Startup India, Make-in-India, Digital India, and the UPI revolution.” The event will also recognize the role of the diaspora in advancing the vision of a “Viksit Bharat,” or developed India, and emphasize the importance of India–U.S. relations.
Speaking on the announcement, Rakesh Malhotra, President of the GID Foundation, said, “This run is more than just a fitness activity—it is a statement of solidarity.”
He added, “As the Indian diaspora, we are uniquely positioned to contribute to India’s growth story.”
Malhotra noted that the event goes beyond fitness. “By coming together in Chicago for the Viksit Bharat Run, we reaffirm our commitment to health, community, and the shared vision of a stronger, developed India by 2047.”
Abhinav Raina, General Secretary of the Foundation, stressed the role of the diaspora. “The Indian-American community has always been a bridge between two nations,” he said.
Raina added that the event carries symbolic weight. “Through this event, we aim to spark conversations about how we can support India’s aspirations while fostering our collective identity here in the U.S. The run is symbolic—it shows that every step counts toward building a better future.”
Light refreshments will be served following the walk and run, with organizers describing it as “an opportunity to network and connect with fellow participants.”
The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) Chicago has extended its support to the run. The event, the organizers noted, is positioned as both a fitness activity and a platform to celebrate India’s progress and future goals.
