How the high tariff on Indian goods is impacting diaspora in America

New India Abroad spoke to the Indian American diaspora to learn how they are adjusting. This is what they had to say.

The imposition of new tariffs, which in some cases have brought the total duty on Indian goods to 50 percent, has created a ripple effect from exporters in India to local Indian grocery stores in America and, finally, to the buyers, which is primarily the Indian American community.

The most immediate and tangible effect of the tariffs is the increase in prices for staple Indian groceries. Products that are central to the Indian diet and culture have been especially affected.
