Coalitions of Hindus of North America-Canada launched its youth adovcacy group, CoHNA's Youth Action Network (CYAN), with a screening of Nikhil Singh's 'The Caste Rush' at the SANAAQ library in Montreal, on Dec. 6.
This hour-long documentary examines the barriers encountered by Dalits and non-Brahmin communities at religious sites across India. Singh and his crew journeyed nationwide to collect firsthand testimonies and uncover the truths fueling these allegations.

The film probes key issues, such as, Are Dalits barred from temple entry? Is priesthood accessible to non-Brahmins? Through conversations with locals, scholars, and temple officials, Singh seeks to deliver a nuanced perspective on the interplay of caste and faith in contemporary India.
The screening was followed by a thought-provoking virtual Q&A with the director of the documentary on 'caste'.
CYAN Canada director Abhinav Pandey said, "The film was eye-opening for most of us. Hindu temple traditions are far more diverse and inclusive than the caricatures often repeated in Western academia and Indian media."
He added, "It's vital for us as youth to understand this reality, especially as 'caste' is increasingly weaponized to misrepresent Hindus in Canada."
