Bharatanatyam dancer Yamuna Srinidhi visits Kannappan Art Museum

Srinidhi has performed across India and trained 1,500 students across the U.S.

xInternationally acclaimed Bharatanatyam dancer Yamuna Srinidhi visited the Kannappan Art Museum in Pearland Texas on March 11, where she was welcomed by the museum founder  Sam Kannappan. 

The museum, inaugurated in 2017 by Pearland Mayor Tom Reid,  houses over 100 cultural artifacts from India, showcasing sculptures, statues, and folk art representing various Indian dance forms and traditions.

Srinidhi, who has delivered over 1000 performances across India and trained more than 1,500 students in the U.S., is widely recognized for her contributions to Indian classical dance. She has received multiple accolades, including the Karnataka Kanmani State Award in 2022 and the Natya Kovide National Award, which was presented by India’s Prime Minister. 

She has also been honored internationally, receiving the Distinguished Artist Award from the cities of Sugar Land, Texas, and Pasadena, California, as well as an honorary dance diploma from the mayor of Santa Catarina, Mexico.

Srinidhi holds a master’s degree in classical dance and previously served as an academic council member at Gangubai Hangal University of Music and Performing Arts in Mysuru from 2017 to 2021. Her recent choreography, Dhyan, which explores the connection between classical dance and mental health, was presented at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) international conference in Bengaluru in November 2024.

Srinidhi is also an accomplished actress, having appeared in 49 Kannada films, as well as several Telugu and Tamil productions. She is a familiar face in Kannada television, starring in 18 serials and two web series.
