A large-scale investigation in India into counterfeit university degrees has raised concerns about credential verification within the U.S. H-1B visa system, following reports that some fraudulent academic documents may have been used to support employment-based visa applications.
According to Insider Wire and Indian law enforcement agencies, investigators have found around 100,000 fraudulent degree certificates and academic records linked to at least 28 Indian universities. Officials found fake transcripts, fake university seals and certifications from a variety of professions, including engineering, medicine and nursing.
