Indian origin oncologist Dr. Taral Patel of the Zangmeister Cancer Center, Ohio presented his research at the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer’s (IASLC) 2025 World Conference on Lung Cancer, held in Barcelona from Sept. 6 to 9.

Patel, a board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist, authored a study titled Assessment of molecular testing in stage IV non-small cell lung cancer patients across American Oncology Network. The work examined quality initiatives by the American Oncology Network (AON) in collaboration with Integra Connect PrecisionQ to improve testing for patients with advanced disease.

“Presenting our research at such a respected international conference was an incredible experience,” Patel said. “Having our work selected through a competitive process highlights its importance to the field.”

He added that the opportunity to share findings with peers worldwide was “both validating and inspiring,” and said it reinforced his commitment to advancing lung cancer care.

The IASLC World Conference on Lung Cancer is the largest global meeting focused solely on lung cancer and thoracic malignancies, drawing clinicians, researchers, industry representatives, patients, and advocates from around the world.

Dr. Stephen “Fred” Divers, chief medical officer of AON, said Patel’s presentation underscored the network’s focus on scientific contributions. “Our physicians’ contributions to the scientific community are central to who we are as a network,” he said. “Research and knowledge-sharing not only strengthen patient care within our practices but also advance the broader understanding of cancer treatment worldwide.”

Patel completed his M.B.B.S. at Baroda Medical College, Maharaja Sayajirao University in Gujarat, India, before moving to the United States. He worked as a research associate at the University of Illinois at Chicago, completed his internal medicine residency at Cook County Hospital, and later trained in hematology and oncology at the University of Cincinnati.

He has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications and is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, Ohio Hematology Oncology Society, and the Community Oncology Alliance.
