Godavari, a South Indian restaurant chain specializing in Andhra cuisine, opened its 43rd outlet on Newark Avenue in Jersey City on Dec. 19.
The ceremonial ribbon-cutting was performed by Councilman-elect Tom Zuppa, marking the restaurant’s entry into the city’s prominent Indian dining corridor.
The Jersey City outlet offers a menu centered on traditional South Indian flavors, including Hyderabadi biryani, a wide range of dosas, tandoori items, Indo-Chinese dishes, and regional curries. The chain is also known for buffet offerings and catering services across several of its locations.

Founded in 2015 in Woburn, Massachusetts, Godavari has expanded steadily across the United States, with restaurants in states such as Texas, New Jersey, California, and North Carolina.
The brand also operates in Canada, including a location in Toronto, and focuses on regional recipes from Andhra Pradesh and Hyderabad.
The opening strengthens Newark Avenue’s profile as a destination for Indian cuisine, catering to both local residents and visitors. Godavari continues to scale its presence across North America, with additional franchise opportunities underway.
