TT Jagannathan, the man who made the Prestige pressure cooker a household name, passed away on October 10, 2025, at the age of 77. While the name may not immediately ring bells, the device he popularized and perfected certainly does—its hiss is familiar in kitchens from Chennai to Chicago.
For millions of Indian households, and the diaspora around the world, the Prestige pressure cooker is more than a cooking appliance; it is a lifeline, a bridge to home, and a symbol of ingenuity.
Jagannathan, chairman emeritus of the TTK Group, was the grandson of TT Krishnamachari, the former Finance Minister of India. Born into a distinguished family, his early life was far removed from factories and assembly lines.
