Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty are the first couple guests on Indian billionaire Nikhil Kamath’s podcast, People by WTF.

According to the trailer released on March 23, the duo will discuss marriage, public life, and personal identity in the upcoming episode.

In one segment as seen in the trailer, Murty and Kamath switch to Kannada while Sunak listens. “You know Kannada, I know Kannada,” Murty says, before asking Sunak in English if he understands. “I don’t,” Sunak replies, as Kamath adds in Kannada that they can say anything about him, prompting laughter.

The trailer also captures a discussion on marriage and partnership. Reflecting on the idea, Kamath says, “When I think of marriage, it’s a great way to ensure against loneliness and always have attention and validation because of the family.”

Sunak responds, “I mean, I… without question, could not function if we weren’t married,” while Murty adds, “It’s called soulmates.”

The discussion is also expected to address Sunak’s political career and his loss of office after the 2024 general election. In the trailer, Kamath is heard asking, “How is it to lose that position? What did you learn from it?”

Sharing the trailer on X, Kamath said the episode explores both personal and public dimensions of the couple’s lives.

“She grew up five minutes from me in Jayanagar, he became the first prime minister of Indian origin of the UK. They've been together 20 years and still argue about ice cream flavours… we talked to him about how it felt to lose power, to her about how it felt to never be seen as her own person, and to them both about what the future holds,” he wrote.

According to the trailer caption, Sunak says losing “the most public job in the world” reinforced his belief in focusing on duty rather than outcomes, referencing the Bhagavad Gita, and describes being 45 as a “blank canvas.”

Murty, meanwhile, emphasizes that she does not see herself solely as her father’s daughter or her husband’s wife, and is clear about her own identity.

Sunak, who served as the United Kingdom’s prime minister from 2022 to 2024, was the first leader of Indian origin to hold the office. Murty is the daughter of Infosys co-founder N.R. Narayana Murthy. The couple have been married for over a decade and have two daughters.

The trailer has also drawn reactions on social media, with users commenting on the guest lineup and the couple’s dynamic. “This is unbelievable, every time you surprise us with your cast choice,” one user wrote. Another said, “only gods and aliens are left to be featured in Nikhil Kamath podcast.”

Some users pointed to the Bengaluru connection and language in the clip. “Nice to see Rishi Sunak and Akshata Murty on your podcast, feels like two old Bangalore folks just catching up over a chat,” one comment read, while another noted, “How nicely she speaks Kannada. Typical Bengaluru Kannada.”
