Patel, a feature film starring an ensemble South Asian cast and inspired by Macbeth, has completed production in Los Angeles, Variety reported.
Set in the world of Indian American–owned motels, the film is a "deadpan gangster tragedy" and is directed by British Indian filmmaker Ravi Kapoor. “It’s the Macbeth story like you’ve never seen it before — a dark, bloody clown piece that’s a nod to immigrant ambition,” Kapoor told the publication.

The cast includes Utkarsh Ambudkar, known for Ghosts; Richa Moorjani, best known for her role in Never Have I Ever; Kal Penn, of The Namesake fame; Kunal Nayyar, known for The Big Bang Theory; Danny Pudi, known for Going Dutch; Meera Simhan, known for Cross; Pete Holmes, known for Crashing; Nik Dodani, known for Atypical; Bernard White, known for The Matrix Revolutions; Punam Patel, known for Special; Randall Park, known for Always Be My Maybe; Rizwan Manji, known for Schitt’s Creek; and Jae Suh Park, known for Friends From College.
Ambudkar, who also serves as a producer, said the role was the most challenging and rewarding of his career. “To be seen like this — together — is nothing short of a dream come true,” he told Variety.
Patel is a co-production between Junglee Films, Prism Entertainment, and Camelback Productions. Production began in June in Los Angeles and is expected to complete post-production later this year. A release date is not yet announced.
